श्री सोमेश्वर महादेव मंदिर ऋषिकेश

योग नगरी ऋषिकेश एक पावन तीर्थ क्षेत्र है। प्रत्येक वर्ष हजारों की सांख्य में तीर्थयात्री और पर्यटक यहां घुमने आते हैं। योग नगरी ऋषिकेश को विश्व की योग राजधानी के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। यहां स्थापित मंदिर और मां गंगा के पावन घाट यहां के मुख्य आकर्षण हैं। यहां स्थापित प्रत्येक मंदिर का अपना इतिहास और महत्व है।

श्री सोमेश्वर महादेव मंदिर में वट वृक्ष में वास करते हैं साक्षात भगवान शिव। श्री रामेश्‍वर गिरि जी (पंच दशनाम जूना अखाड़ा)  बताते हैं कि यहां विराजमान 11 वट वृक्ष एकादश रुद्रों का प्रतीक है जिन्हें भगवान शिव ने स्वयं प्रकट किया था। संपूर्ण विश्व में यह एकादश रुद्र केवल यहीं देखने को मिलते हैं। इस मंदिर का वर्णन स्कन्द पुराण के केदार खंड में भी है।  मंदिर का वर्णन स्कन्द पुराण के केदार खंड में भी है। श्री रामेश्वर गिरि जी बताते हैं कि जीवित अवस्था में एक वट वृक्ष में भगवान शिव का वास होता है, जैसे आँवले के वृक्ष में श्री हरि नारायण का वास होता है, नीम के वृक्ष में मां दुर्गा भवानी का वास होता है वैसे ही वट वृक्ष में स्वयं भगवान शिव का वास होता है ।

ऐसी किवदंती है कि रावण के वध के कारण श्री राम को ब्रह्म हत्या का दोष लगा था जिसके निवारण के लिए श्री राम ऋषिकेश आये थे और उन्होंने भी सोमेश्वर महादेव का अभिषेक किया था तत्पश्चात ब्रह्म हत्या के दोष के निवारण हेतु प्रभु श्री राम माँ भागीरथी के तट पर तपस्या करने को प्रस्थान कर गए। एक और मान्यता है कि पांडवों ने भी अपने वनवास के समय में इस मंदिर में भगवान शिव का अभिषेक किया था।

Shri Someshwar Mahadev Temple Rishikesh

Yoga city Rishikesh is a holy pilgrimage area. Every year thousands of pilgrims and tourists come here to visit. Yoga city Rishikesh is also known as the Yoga capital of the world. The temples established here and the holy ghats of Mother Ganga are the main attractions here. Each temple established here has its own history and importance.

Lord Shiva resides in the banyan tree. Mahant Shri Rameshwar Giri ji (Panchdashnaam juna Akhada) tells that the 11 banyan trees present here are the symbols of the eleven Rudras which were revealed by Lord Shiva himself. This eleven Rudra can be seen only here in the entire world.  This temple is also described in the Kedar section of Skanda Purana.S hri Rameshwar Giri ji tells that in the living state, Lord Shiva resides in a Banyan tree, just as Shri Hari Narayan resides in the Amla tree, Maa Durga Bhavani resides in the Neem tree, similarly in the Banyan tree Lord Shiva himself resides there.

Lord Rama due to the killing of Ravana, Shri Ram was accused of killing a Brahmin, for the redressal of which Shri Ram came to Rishikesh and he also performed the abhishek (anointment) of Someshwar Mahadev. After that, to get rid of the blame of killing a Brahmin, Lord Shri Ram went to Maa Bhagirathi left for the coast to do penance. Another belief is that the Pandavas also consecrated Lord Shiva in this temple during their exile.
